Drawing from Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) design, this model features an ultralightweight shallow spool tailored for finer-diameter lines so anglers can cast ultralight lures more accurately than with conventional low-profile reels. It adopts Shimano’s Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) by relocating the braking assembly from the spool to the palming side-plate, significantly reducing rotating mass so the spool requires very little force to turn and enables better distance and control with lightweight tackle. Unlike standard magnetic brake systems that apply a constant braking force during a cast, the FTB takes advantage of centrifugal forces to let the magnetic brakes automatically increase braking only when needed.
